How hot should the 7805 on the Psone screen get?

The one that is towards the side on the mobo, not the one towards the bottom. Its getting really hot. Should it be very hot? If not, what can I do to fix it?

What's the input voltage?

They can get quite hot.

If you're really concerned about it, you may add a small heatsink on the metal end.

Linear regulators get hot. That's pretty much it

If you haven't tapped anything off the 7805 it will be perfectly fine. I even ran an entire SNES mini off the audio 7805 (right side). Got a bit hotter but no problems.

Ya, linear volt regulators will get hot, because that is how they are designed. They lower voltages by passing it off as heat.

Buuuuuuuuuttttttttt, hopefully it shouldn't get hot enough to melt components lol......though it probably has a safety cut off..or will melt itself first....

A quick search shows 125 C is the highest continuous rated operating voltage. Pour some water over it when it's running, if it boils, it's too hot.

I was about to ask the same thing. I have my intec gamepad screen laying out in a wire-like hell attached to my Super joy III and this little component (I'm assuming it's also a 7805) is getting hot enough to... well... burn my finger and smell like burning electronics.
