where to connect LEDs

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

where to connect LEDs

Post by markus »

i just removed the light box light in the ps1 screen, but i don't know where to connect the LEDs.

i accidentally got a different ps1 screen, but i know it would work.

do i connect the leds to this thing here?

and then plug it into the beige colored plug here?

No that light you took out stays out.

You will have to find a 5v source on the screen to solder to a resistor and then to the positive lead on the Leds.

Then the leds will be put in the light box. If you use 4 then 1 on each corner.

I meant I was wondering if I could cut the wires on the light box, and then solder the postive and negative led points onto there. Do you know what I mean? I have the 3 LEDs in the screen already, I just don't know how to apply power to them.

No, as I said you will have to find a 5v source on the board to solder to the positive side of the led's. Then the led's will ne to be soldered together in parallel. And as I said you will need a resistor on the positive side of the led's between them and the 5v source.

So I connect the resistor to the five volt source which I then connect to the LEDs? It says in ben's book that you have to find a 7805 regulator. I can't seem to find one on the board. Do they come in varying sizes? Cuz I see one by the DC power jack, could connect it there or will that not work? :?

No you can't connect them to the power jack , you need a 5v source. Get a multimeter and find a 5v source on the board if you can't find the 7805.

You solder them to ground :)

The ground is the negative side of the power plug. also there are several grounds on the board and yes some are silvery but you would need a meter to check for sure if they are ground.

The power plug for the screen. You know it has a positive and a negative. The grounds on the board connect to the negative side of the power plug.

Where the yellow power jack is. "Usually" ground is the outside part of that yellow jack.
