Problem inside Dreamcast RGB "pink" screen....

Post by Ichisuke »

Hi there! I hope someone can explain this to me...
I bought the console years ago(on ebay) and it was NEW in the box, the PAL combo-pack with Chu Chu Rocket.
When I opened the box I'm pretty sure everything was ok, I mean even the game was still attached with the console box and all the tapes were in place.
Anyway with the console there was the RFU adaptor(yuhu! even worse than a composite cable....) and the video quality was horrible(never imagined.... -_-)
So I ordered an official SEGA RGB cable and guess what? "Pinky" screen everywhere.... I bought another cable..... and then a multi XCM RGB cable.....no difference.
All the other console work correctly in RGB with the XCM multi-cable so the console has something....
Also using the RFU adaptor I can still see the problem, red colors are more present but the quality is so low that I cannot tell if the colors are all there("green" "red" and "blue" I suppose)
Is this normal? I mean... are there some Dreamcast version that doesn't work in RGB???? Some first model or is the motherboard really defective?
Here some photos, only blue and red are display.... we are missing a color here.........

I wrote this only now here because I already have a working dreamcast, but before trashing this one I want to know what could be the problem.

P.S.: sorry for any english mistake.

Hi,

I hope i'm not too late to reply, i'm having the EXACT same problem, these rgb cables just will not connect, i've held it in really tight at and angle and got a picture for like 5 seconds then it goes.

as we speak my dreamcast is in bits, I have the cable connected but with the casing off the scart and have joint the colours, C Sync, and one ground from the motherboard directly, the picture is totally black but when I plug the other end into the dreamcast it obviously makes one last connection I have missed and i get a perfect RGB picture.

please feel free to ask me if i can help any more :-)

I think the dreamcast needs 220 microfraud capacitors on the r, g, and b lines to get a good picture.
rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio! \m/

If your making a portable, do yourself a favour and save some time. Stick with composite. It looks miles better.
