charging/power question
This is a basic diagram of how I'm going to wire my n64p. for some reason I can't charge the system while its on (well atleast w/o the game freezing) so to get around this I'm going to install a separate power port so I can run the system off of wall power while its off and charging, I just need to find a regulator that will give 7.4v because if I screw up and forget to unplug the power cord before I turn on the unit, I will be feeding the system 15v which is way too much so the regulator is just there as a sort of safe circuit. Or if anyone knows how to charge the batteries while its on or off, w/o the game freezing I would love to hear it.

Don't forget a add a transformer and regulator to make the power go from ac 120v to DV what ever you need between the N64 and wall port power
Also, if you have the switch to the right and use the wall port charger the power will also, go to your battery. If it has to much current and voltage after the transformer and regulator it will mess up your battery.

You shouldn't put the 3.3V regulator after the 7.2V regulator unless it isn't rated for dropping from the voltage of your battery (most regulators you would use would be fine). The reason for this is efficiency. Unfortunately dropping the voltage of a circuit to a lower voltage results in loss of energy. In linear regulators the problem is very bad but it still exists in switching regulators. If you look at the datasheet of your regulator it will show the efficiency at different voltages and currents.
If you have two 90% efficent regulators connected together (7.2V and 3.3V) then the efficiency of the circuit will be 90% of 90% which is 81% on the 3.3V line. If you have it running straight off the battery the efficiency will be closer to 90% (in all likelihood it will be a bit lower because it has to drop the voltage further) and your batteries will last longer.
