This is my first post having been lurking around for a couple of days. I came here having been blown away by a NESp on instructables and having come here realised how much scope there is to make incredible portable consoles. I am 100% going to have a go myself and would love to try a SNESp. My electronic skills are pretty much non-existent but I can solder and follow instructions and will be enlisting a far more knowledgeable friend, so think I can pull it off! Anyway, onto my first question:
Seeing as how I'm in Oxford, England, it means if I want to be able to buy carts locally in the future (I do!) the SNESp will need to be PAL flavoured. But, reading up on all the info here it seems that unless using a SNES Mini, a SNESp is a non-starter, especially for a confessing n00b such as yours truly.
Problem is we only ever got the original SNES in a Pal flavour and no SNES Mini
So, the question is in the title: Can the Super Famicom Junior (the Jap mini) be made compatible with Pal carts? The Japanese machines certainly take the smoother rounded carts (a la the Pal machine) but from reading up I think there's some sort of lockout device that would prevent the Pal cart working. Can anyone shed any light on this or is there an alternative way around it?
It might take me a while to get onto this project as I'm working on something much more low-tech right now, but I'm looking forward to being a regular on here over the winter. Thanks for any and all help to begin with
