Replacing the PS2 DVD Drive with a PC or Video DVD player?

Post by kerson »

Hello everyone, as you can see I'm new to the forums, but I've been following console modding for quite a while now. I have some questions but didn't find any topics related to it so I might as well ask.

You see, I have a spare PS2 with a broken laser, and I was wondering if the whole unit could be replaced with a DVD drive for a PC or from a DVD player. I read on another topic about it being possible for a DVD player to read PS2 discs with some rewiring, but it didn't go into detail and I wouldn't know where to start. I wanted to try it out since I already have a couple working DVD players I don't use and spare PS2 parts are scarce and expensive where I live in (even online), besides I wouldn't want to pay more if I can do it this way.

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks :D
