ps1 memory card adapter

I've seen a diagram on another website(forgot to bookpark the page) on a memory card to serial adapter. Does anybody know how to do this? And I don't want to buy anything from ebay for this like 3rd party adapters:P I wanna backup my saves and possibly somehow use other devices to store saves that way too. I heard you can do that and use your pc as a super memcard, so I'm guessing you could get a serial to usb adapter, do some majik, and use usb drives instead of my 1mb memcard I have
