Well, I was installing my rapid fire button to a 360 controller the other day, and accidentally one of the surface mount components from the back side came off. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it was used for? It is the "C17" one. (Or at least I think that is the one) It is in the bottom right portion of this picture:

I was thinking it has something to do with charging? When I had a Plug and play pluged in to charge the batteries, the rapid fire wouldn't work.

Ideas?

Idea: Put it back on. Is it still lying around somewhere? That looks like a simple surface mount soldering job that requires a little gentle precision, some flux, and a pair of tweezers.

:? I don't have any flux, and my iron is a crappy 30 watt with the worst possible tip on it. Are surface mounts polarized?

Surface mounts are not polarized, there no way to tell which is positive anyway, no difference between the sides.

Flux = lemon juice.

Crappy irons can do surface mount soldering, just be gentle. All you need it for the solder underneath the part to melt.

How to solder surface mount:

1) Put flux on the board's contacts
2) Put a decent amount of solder on the contacts
3) With tweezers, place the part on the contacts
4) With the tweezers holding the part firmly in place, gently touch the soldering iron to the side of the component.
4) Repeat for the other pins.
5) Done.
