Finalized N-Forcer Idea

Post by Unidentified Assilant »

Ok... for about 4 Months... they're has been talk from Unidentified Assilant of a Portable PC called the N-Forcer, how much action? None.

But rest assure, this is my prime endevour, and this is what it will be.

Parts List
-----------
12-Button Controller (plus Button to switch between Keyboard or Mouse) (got)
PS2 Mini USB Keyboard (still to order)
Some Kind Of Motherboard (still to order)
512MB Memory (got)
Compact Flash Reader (still to order)
Compact Flash Card (still to order)
SlimDVD Drive (still to order)
Hard Drive (depends on weather I want to use my old one, but I probably will as all the hard-drive will contain is windows and registries, the rest will be on CF/CD)
Two Li-Ion Batteries (if possible)
PSone 5" Screen (still to order)

Price: Pretty Damn High I Can Imagine

So then, as you can see, this will be a all-in-one handheld system that plays VCD, DVD and of course, PC Games, I not sure wether to include a wireless modem as I've heard unrealiable things about these, and they have put me off a bit, it will play as many PC games or games I convert to a CD/DVD, much like a playstation really, as the CF takes the place as a Memory Card.

Some Possible Launch Titles
--------------------------------
Resident Evil 2 - Have the PC version of this, its brilliant, already worked it out, saved games go to CF Card, game runs off CD, know how :)

Command & Conquer - This is one great game, it will be done using the controller, but I'd love to have a stylus to select units, that would be great

Unreal Tournament - This just has to be included

MSN Messenger - I'm gonna put that on the Hard-Drive, so if Internet Access becomes part of the Pocket N-Forcer, then, MSN messenger is there so you cant alk to your mates, wherever you are! (In fact, I may include GAIM)

Go with a Mini-ITX motherboard.

www.mini-itx.com

They announced a new one, dubbed "Luke", that's really freakin tiny!

Thanks, does anyone know of a screen (maximum 5 inches) that I can use with a stylus, and no, I don't have the money for a tablet pc.

You know what would own?

If you brought a graphic tablet, the ones where you can just touch any part of it and it moves your pointer straight to it, like touchscreen but using your monitor as the display.

Then, try and get a lcd display the same size as the graphic tablet, hack it up and you have a touchscreen.

UA: this is what you're after, they only do them 7" and up. Not cheap either.

You'll have transparency problems if you follow Nightmare's suggestion, most likely, in that the tablet sensor won't be nice and clear. You'd also, at the very least, have to add a plate of glass (or something equally hard and transparent) between the tft and the graphic tablet, since applying direct pressure to tft screens is a good way to damage them. I'd abandon the idea of having a touchscreen. It won't be cheap, whichever way you go.
