If it's anything like the NES version....it might be good enough for portablizingsz....

I could def see that happening. It looks a little too small for my big hands and would love to give it a bigger screen (not that much bigger). Also have yet to see how much the cartridge sticks out, so that could be fixed with a mod as well.Hackmodford wrote:I was thinking when this thing comes out, and if it's any good, whenever people ask us for handheld segas it'll be really funny when we use this thing to make them and just absically do a custom case job.![]()

Why haven't you been looking at my log post?
Not matter what though, I am def buying it day one. I know its probably frowned upon here, but I hope its hacked to play ROMs. Would be nice not to have to bring Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles out with me on a daily basis. Thing of the size of it with both of them plugged in!
Wait. Have people started using them or portablizing yet? : huge smile on face: Like with bigger screen and less cart-sticking-4-to-5-inches-from-top-of-handheld? That would be awsome. Want one of those too, modded or not.Metallica Man X wrote:If it's anything like the NES version....it might be good enough for portablizingsz....
Damn it! I'm gona go poor hunting down these retro portables, and I won't even be able to play them on the T anymore (getting car soon.

Would, but moving to Framingham where there is no T. Guess I will just play my portables at home, like I always have.dragonhead wrote:youre better off taking the T in boston anyway. driving is actually slower.

Re: Just had weird revelation
I'm guessing the biggest reason no one's done one of those with a bigger screen is because if you're going to buy a screen anyway, you can get a plain NOAC for under $20. It doesn't make a lot of sense to pay twice that for a screen you'll just throw away. The FC Mobile isn't any smaller than a lot of NOACs on the market already.gumbyx84 wrote:Wait. Depending on the price, this might be far better than any other Genny clone. The SD functionality is a huge improvement, though.

Re: Just had weird revelation
Makes sense. I guess for someone like me that is a beginner when it comes to stuff like this, a pre-made portable would be easier to use then making everything from scratch. The cart port would already be there and in the "right" place and the board is already cut down to be portable. Wouldn't you be able to just solder in a new screen (if its the same type of screen originally in the handheld) and wire extensions to the inputs? Then all you would have to really worry about would be the casing.Tibia wrote:I'm guessing the biggest reason no one's done one of those with a bigger screen is because if you're going to buy a screen anyway, you can get a plain NOAC for under $20. Note: I am just speculating as I have only basic ideas of how to portablize by reading work logs here.

Re: Just had weird revelation
The FC Mobile has a proprietary screen, and I suspect this Genesis has a similar deal. The FC Mobile DID have an AV out jack, where you would connect your new screen to it. The GameSpy article on the RetroGen says it also has AV out, so you could do the same thing. You might need to upgrade the batteries, depending on the screen you'd want to use. I would like to see a pic of an actual screen display before I hate it as much as I hate the FC Mobile. lol
It's a very intriguing little system, but given my finances, I'll stick with my Nomad.

Re: Just had weird revelation
I would like a Nomad, but I would have to buy one and the only one I have found is the same price as this. I'm also going to wait to see how the screen looks before making my decision. Either way, I would like to do a screen and case mod, but I have next-to-no "modding" skills. So I'll have to see if someone does said mod before I can.Tibia wrote:The FC Mobile has a proprietary screen, and I suspect this Genesis has a similar deal.
