Problems with Dell Monitor

The other day I bought a Monitor for my Xbox Laptop. I tested it with no problems. Then I came back the next day to test to make sure it worked. And when I went to turn it on it turn oned but the screen didn't have a picture on it. And after a while of testing it to see what the problem was, the power would go out in my house everytime I pluged it in to the wall. It causes a power surge. So I would have to go flip the breaker box. So my question is what would cause that to happen would it be a capacitor or what? And it's a Dell 19 inch Monitor

Sounds like something is shorting. Check the power supply.

How do I go about checking for a short? What do I check?

Open up the power supply and very carefully inspect every wire and capacitor/resistor. If anything looks unusual try to re-solder it and test it out. Also check for stripped wires touching other things.

Thank you for your help but that didn't work even though I did notice two parts soldered together and I desoldered that but it still did the same things.
