Parts for building an audio amp.

I was doing a little searching and the audio amp in this topic looks like a good one to use.

So I'm looking for parts on Mouser and searching for capacitors.

My question is, how do I know which capacitor to get? There's so many different types for the same uf rating.

This one should do for C3 and C4. In fact, you could even replace C1 with the same type. (Yes I know they're different values, but it will work.)

This one for C2, 220 uF

It might be a snug fit since that one is axial (The leads are on two sides) and the kit board is probably designed for a radial capacitor. Of course this matters less if you're making the amp on a veroboard.
Actually you could replace C5 with two 470 nF type (connected in parallell) or even just one of that type. Also, if you choose the 1 uF capacitor for C5, be aware that it is polarized and should be connected with its negative lead to ground.
Also, I might be mistaken, but I believe C5 would be more useful if its other lead was connected to the point where IC pin 2,8 and the middle pin of the potentiometer join.

Wow, thanks a lot for the help man! How do you know which capacitors would be good to use?

Hmm, that first capacitor is pretty expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative?

In USA Gift-Cards (at least the ones I was sold) you have a tiny audio amp which works quite well. The board as I recall is about 2cms long or thereabouts. Another good source is small MP3 players. Might save you money and trouble??

lol, that's a good idea. I'm guessing most gift cards are probably mono though, and don't have a potentiometer.
