n64p video and now audio problem

Post by neverused »

Ok, so I have my N64p all wired up and 60% done (mostly case work left), but I fired it up and at first it worked, but the video was really washed out. So I turned it all off, rechecked the little ribbon in the back of my psone (zenith) screen. Now when I turn it on, absolutely nothing happens. The first time almost everything worked, including the sound. Now, absolutely nothing comes through the screen. I've checked my power, that's fine; I even stuck a voltmeter on the video and sound lines. The composite video puts out ~0.01V, the right audio is about ~3V, and the left is ~0.9V. I can't figure out what I did wrong.

Also, I tested the system with a jumper pack, a li-ion battery at about 7.6V, a PTH0800 for the 3.3V line (which works great), a Zenith screen, and a copy of F-Zero. The only other thing I can think of is that my cart relocation may have a loose wire or two, but I cannot find one at all, though I may go through that more thoroughly later.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Thanks!

Nope, they never touched.

It seems my N64 learned a new trick. I just put my voltmeter on the left and right audio lines and the voltage is counting down! I have no idea what is going on!

Could be fried. Then again, it could be a loose connection somewhere.

Are you using ground that's on the outside of the screen, like you scratched off the silicone and soldered to that.

I've had troubles with that before. What you should do is use the ground coming from the connector on the bottom of the screen. And remember to tie the ground to the ground of the n64.

Grounding the psone screen can be tricky if you don't use the connector at the bottom.

I used the ground on the bottom of the screen, the 7th pin if I remember correctly, and connected it to the N64 ground. I actually connected all the grounds together. As for the board being fried, would the video line still put out about half a volt, and have the two audio lines doing a "countdown"? The audio lines start off about 1.5V and just steadily drop from there, though I havn't had the patience to see if it ever reaches 0V.

I hate to do this, but... Bump!

I'm hoping one of the resident N64 masters will hace an idea about the audio lines counting down. Also, I am currently going through and rewiring all of it. I'm hoping that I can figure out if it's really fried and if I have to use my virgin N64.
