hip gear screen pad question or alternative suggestion?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

hip gear screen pad question or alternative suggestion?

Post by neverused »

Has anyone ever used this pin out successfully? I'd like to use the RBG portion, but Segasonicfan never posted a follow up result. Basically, I am looking for a small (2.5"-3.5", maybe up to 4"), non-psone screen that accepts RGB for my FC Twin project. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I've been working on a solid pinout for the PCB for a few days now and fiinally compiled a finished pic:

I'm very sure of everything except the adjustable ground input...that actually is tied to VCC1 according to my datasheet but it makes more sense to be adjustable ground as shown here: http://www.bquach.com/images/gamegrrl/pinout.jpg

As you will notice there are RGB inputs on the board! I am going to do some testing on this later because my screen broke sadly. This board is also capable of S-video which I will also be looking into as soon as I get a new screen.

It may work. I used it yesterday, and video showed up, but it looked like my backlight had been dimmed a lot. I've only used this pinout for composite video, not rgb, and power. But composite definitely works on it.

My mess-up might have been because I only fed 9 volts into the screen, maybe I should feed it the full 12. Eh, whatevz... if it doesn't work I'll I have to do the LED mod anyway.
If you're getting 404'd when trying to use the links in stickies, try this tutorial to find that juicy info.

For an alternate screen, DX has some cheap Pustom brand screens, apparently easy to hack. Unfortunately no RGB, but I don't know if it matters a lot on such a small screen.

I was looking for RGB specifically, because I have an FC Twin and I'm trying to avoid the separate power/ video board, but I think I will end up getting the 3" Pustom if DX will let me actually buy it. The DX site seems to be having a lot of trouble lately.

They have a mirror up (www2.dealextreme.com), but wait till they finish the upgrade, only the most popular items are there right now on the mirror.

I got impatient and ordered the Pustom, DX is just taking forever to ship the stupid thing.
