Wii Lag. (Super Smash Bros, Setting up a static IP?)

Post by ghosstt »

I've been playing smash bros lately (brawl), and want to start playing online again. It's seems they haven't really fixed the servers much, so I figured I'd see what I can do. I noticed I didn't have any ports open for my Wii, so I went to do that. When I got to the page, i realized I needed the Wii's IP address, which I have no idea how to find out. (I'm using Auto DHCP on a Linksys WRT54GS) How do I go about finding my Wii's IP? Can I set up a static IP JUST for my Wii? And leave the DHCP for the other pcs in my house?

edit: Ok, didn't know my IP for the wii had to be outside of my dhcp range. That works now. But now I have another quustion. When I'm port forwarding, it says to have these settings for wii:

1-6345 | UDP

But I had these settings open for starcraft:

6112-6119 | Both

It tells me that they are overlapping ports open. I have different IPs for both of them, and I'd like to have them both together.. What's the problem?

I have been looking for the exact same thing. I know on my friends 2wire router he just has to turn on the wii internet channel, and then look at the connected devices on his router and select open port for this device. Hope this helps. Didn't help me because I have a Westell modem/router
That's Hacking Awsome

I read that they will be cutting the online services for brawl. Or maybe that was a rumor... Search!

Sorry. There is no way to "split" a port to serve both purposes. Are you sure the lag isn't related to your connection?

I think what your referring to is the message Nintendo sent out through the Wii message board recently stating that they'll be discontinuing the service that allows people to upload there own brawl stages, pictures, and videos to Nintendo's server because they already have enough.
