Super Wild Card/SNES Portable Combo?

Post by marc_h »

Hey Guys,

I stumbled across this website yesterday whilst following a link from the openpandora website. I was amazed at the things Ben and most of you forum users have created, and it really got me thinking so I ordered a copy of Ben's book straight away.

The SNES project is what has really caught my eye. I have a couple of original PAL SNES's lying around which I would love to convert into portable versions. I also have a Super Wild Card which I have been thinking about. Has anyone ever tried making a portable SNES/SWC combination?

I know the idea is supposed to be to make the units as small and light as possible, and adding a whole load of other circuitry and boards etc isn't going to make this task easy. I also do not know whether the power consumption would be too great to make the project truly portable.

Anyways, I'm getting well ahead of myself; trying to walk before I can crawl. First things first, I am just going to follow a worked example - well the very first thing I am actually gonna do is finish my uni final year project, which for some reason I keep trying to ignore lol.

So basically I'd like to know if anyone has tried making a combo, and if not are there any blindingly obvious reasons why it wouldn't work which I am missing?

Thanks for any input,

Hmm.. now other than physical size and power draw, there *shouldn't* be any reason why it couldn't work. I've got a SWC DX32 that I don't use, but I don't know if I could bring myself to kill it!

I wonder if there are any modern alternatives to the 3.5" floppy drive these things use....
