I have read somewhere (maybe here? Can't find the page again now) that rather than the standard on/off switch for the lockout chip it would be possible to piggyback two chips from UK and US machines and use the switch to select which chip has leg four connected to the board. Combined with the 50/60 switch this should allow greater compatability with games like Kirby and Mario RPG, right?
From what I had been reading it sounded like the cart and console chips where electronicly identical but the cart versions where phsicaly larger so I decided to use the chips from a couple of cheap sports games rather than find a spare console to butcher and planed to wire them in. I had no problem removing the chips from the carts and soon had them mounted up and wired ready for the console and thats where my plan fell apart. The lockout chips from the carts have sixteen pins but the chip in my US SNES (number on the board is SHVC-CPU-01) has eighteen pins. Am I wrong about the chips being the compatible or could anyone help with pinouts? Did nintendo use different chip types inside different revison/region consoles and if so which should I look out for? Maybe this whole idea is pointless or won't work?
Any input would be appreciated, even if you tell me I'm wasting my time.
