PS1 disc drive compatible with PSone?

Had a quick question before i possibly start a PSone portable. Had a look inside my PSone and realised the ribbon cable is reealllyy short, meaning I can't move my cd drive to where i want it. I was wondering if the PS1 disc drive would work in a PSone as I think it has a much longer ribbon cable.

Yes. Ben did it on his first PSp.

I think he just used the PS1 ribbon cable on the PSone drive.

Note: The CD assembly from the PSOne had a VERY short data ribbon cable so I had to buy a used 1995 model Playstation from Funcoland and use its ribbon cable. I also had to extend the cable that powers the motors.

The PS1 optical drive might work, though.

Yes they are %100 interchangeable, I've swapped them around with three different models
