here is my idea to improve the brightness for lcd/tft screens
have you ever heard about smd-led's ? (smd = surface mounted device)
this tiny lil things you find normaly in your cellphone as backlight for the screen. Ok, it's a little bit tricky to solder them tiny "devils" to a pcb, but with a little practise you are able to do.
The "problem" of normal white LED's is that the light comes out spotted,
cause the body of the LED is a lens. Ok, you can grind the lens a lil with some sandpaper. So the light comes out broken an no more spottet, so it spreads more around.
My idea for the improved lcd/tft backlight.

explanation :
the orange part with the black holes is the pcb
the white rectangles are the smd-led's
you just have to add a resistor, solder some wires and hook it up
some place where you have +volt and ground.
if the pcb stripe (yes its a stripe i think) is to big, you can grind it
to a minimum size, so it fits in the space where the old backlight has been.
if there is not enough space you can solder the smd-leds direct to some wire and glue them in place.
if you try it with smd-led's you are able to ad more led's, so you can improve the backlight. smd-led's also suck less power then normal led's
jus think about it, an try it out.
