PSP screen for N64 Portable?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

PSP screen for N64 Portable?

Post by Kadok »

I checked the screen mods forum, then searched around the N64 forum and could find nothing. So I am now starting a new topic to ask: Has anyone sucessfully made a N64 Portable using a PSP screen, or does anyone know if it is possible? The Screen Hacking Thread said that it is possible to make it accept RGB, but that it might need a board. I'm wondering what that would entail?

Why would you want to do that anyway?

1-It's a lot of trouble.
2-It's a different aspect ratio
3-Its tiny.

Before I answer your question, maybe you should consider that.

The easiest way to do it is to have a complete psp mobo inside your portable.....so not a good plan.

It would be a horrible idea for a few reasons. The screen is widescreen. a lot of n64 systems can not accept rgb. and you need to buy a special circuit board to use the screen. a pointless idea, as using the gba or gamegear.

Size of the portable for me doesn't really matter. I'm not building it for carrying in pocket. In that respect putting a psp mobo inside the portable isn't really a problem, can anyone tell me how I can do that? Also about the aspect ratio: What would happen when I tried to play an N64 game on the widescreen? And about the RGB, couldn't I just do the RGB mod to my N64 to get it to output RGB?

they don't mean size - they mean the quality of the game. if done, it will stretch out the image, and it wouldn't make a good portable.

I know that they're available, but it really isn't the best solution.
I hate to be another person to recommend a PSone screen, but it really is the best documented around, and easiest for us to help you with.

Just buy a cheap Pustom screen from DX. Smaller with a 4:3 aspect ratio and takes composite.

psone, zenith, or pocket tv screens are the best options when making a portable. dvd player screens are ideal for small laptops. lcd tv's that are around 15" are ideal for bigger laptops, such as ben's series of gaming system laptops.

Because usually floating text doesn't appear in front of a camera as you take a picture?
