Currently this project is postponed until I get a dremel (hopefully by next week)

Well this is going to be a Gamecube inside the shell of a dreamcast.

1. relocated power regulator board
2. Powers on when dreamcast power button pushed

to do
1. get a dremel and cut that piece of plastic for the controller port on the gamecube and bondo it together with the dreamcast plastic
2. sand down the gamecube dvd drive assembly so I can place a piece of platic that fits in with the dreamcast on top of the gamecube dvd drive assembly without the laser being too far away from the laser (a dremel would help a lot)
3. dremel/bondo the AV and power cord slot to fit the gamecube
4.sand and paint ,when I got it someone had painted it with acrylic paint or something so I need to remove it somehow or sand it off.


also, what kind of bondo should I get and where can I get it?

i've heard mighty putty is a real rip off, but for stuff like this it's perfect. i'm sure you can pick it up at walmart

thanks. I was looking at getting the dremel xpr 400 but I would have to get it off the internet. I'll look at ACE, Kmart and walmart to see if they have dremels.

If Ace dont have the XPR in stock they can order it really fast for you. I just picked up a single speed dremel with bench vise for $50 today from my local Ace. I already gots an out let wired to a dimmer switch so that gives me my variable speeds.

I was working on making the dvd drive fit in with the gamecube and... I dropped the laser from about 4 ft. I got the gamecube at a pawn shop as broken for $10 so I already pot tweaked it and was getting errors every now and then.

looks like I'll have to buy a new laser. So what should I tweak the laser back to? because now it's set for a dying laser and I plan to buy a new one if I can find it. Also if someone can show me where to buy one, other than ebay. I want to compare prices befor paying $20 on ebay. For now I'll just swap it with the laser from my other gamecube and replace that one later.



edit: It looks like I'll need about 1cm or so in height to fit it all in. would cutting the heatsink a little be a bad idea?

double edit: I think a dvd drive pcb board relocation is just what I need. has anyone done this before? I'll be checking the stickies and other threads to see, and maybe even try it if its not too hard.

I pretty well screwed over the dvd drive motherboard trying to relocate it, but would the gamecube play games off of the SD card if I chipped it? And I'm not trying to talk piracy here, its just that I don't think I'll be able to put the dvd drive back on and it would make an OK portable if I could run games off of an SD card and a chipped gamecube.

hate to triple post but I want to bump this.

I got a different gamecube to work with and I managed to make it look like a normal dreamcast with the exeption of the controller ports, thats yet to come, but it now plays gamecube games but when I play games, they always start on the first try, but I can never get past the opening menus on any games. it tells me the disc cannot be read.

I tried tweaking the laser, I think the problem is that the laser doesn't have enough room to move back and forth, although I can push it back and forth fairly easily.

any ideas?

edit: I guess it may have been the way the ribbon cable couldn't quite move right, I nudged it and I was able to play through super smash bros, then I moved the drive a little and it wouldn't work.

Would it be ok just to leave the fan out? I might be able to put in the tiny dreamcast fan if that would help.

edit: using the bottom half of the dvd assembly is really the only way to make it work 100% but I'm going to have to cut off about 1/4 inch of it somehow.
