pth08000 drops voltage .8000 volts when wired to the n64
i'm trying to make a portable n64, obviously and i don't understand why the voltage on the pth08000 drops when it is wired on the n64. when i tested it just wired to the battery's power circuit i was getting 3.3 volts, but for some reason when it is soldered to the board of the n64 it drops .800 volts and won't run the n64.
i posted this in the technical questions forum because this problem could apply to any portable.

Sounds like the 3.3v line has a short. Does the LED turn on?

nope. it works fine with the original power supply.
i got a bigger capacitor(35volts) for the pth08000 and now the voltage is at 2.875, so i think i just need around a 50 volt capacitor

Sounds like your batteries aren't beefy enough.

maybe, but i have also soldered the wires directly to a 9 volt 2.2 amp power supply, and i still get the same problem.
i have ordered some new 6600mAh 7.4 batteries off ebay for around 20 dollars(don't have a charging circuit yet) so i'm hoping that fixes the problem.
is the n64 not running on the power supply because it doesn't have enough juice?

Where are you taking the voltage measurement from? Do you have a picture of the setup by any chance? Depending on where you're measuring, it's possible that it's just a bad power connection. An increase of even an ohm could cause a big problem with such a high current load.

the wires i am using are like 28 guage. i have measured it from the regulator, from the board's adapter, and from the board's switch.

28 gauge it's actually kind of thin for a power line. You might want to move to 24 or 22 gauge...but then again I tend to be cautious when it comes to power stuff.
Have you tried testing it in any way? By that I mean have you tried putting a different load on the output of the regulator...testing it by having it power something else? Even just a resistor would be sufficient. I think radio shack sells some 50 ohm power resistors. (you want to use a power resistor if you use a small resistance so you don't cause it to release it's "magic smoke" as my professor would always say) Put one of those on the output to test if it's the regulator that's failing or if it's something with the N64 board.
Also...have you tested the N64 using the wall power supply to make sure it still works properly? Doing those two things would at least help narrow down the possibilities of what the problem could be.

i have already tested it with the original power supply and it's working. i have tested it with 6 different regulators, 3 08000 and the other 3 08080

Well you should try to test the regulator with a different load...and check to see what its behavior is like. Other than that I would check the wiring to make sure that it is all connected well. When I was working on mine the input to the N64 dropped to about 1.2v and it turned out that it was because the ground wire was making a very poor connection.
