NOAC problems

Post by themadhacker »

I am trying to run a sj3 main board, but when it turns on, there are usually problems. A lot of times, I turn it on, and it goes directly to the games list, like it should. but other times when I turn it on, it does one of the following : white screen/ nothing/a bunch of random numbers and letters appear/it turns on like it should, then slowly fades then a bunch of green pixels and numbers appear and start scrolling accross the screen.

This is really bothering and confusing me. does anybody have an idea as toi what is causing this?

Is it getting sufficient power? And when it goes to the games list, does it play games? If so, for how long? Will it work for as long as you want, when it does work, or does it just randomly shut off? Are there any solder glops dropped on it? Possibly a cut trace? Cold solder joint?

I have a 7805 run to the sj3, and it has 9 volts going into that.

no, I don't have a controller hooked up yet. This is the sj3 mainboard that ben gave to me. There was no controller with it, so I don't know how long it will play games. When it does turn on properly, it does not turn off. I had it on for about 8 minutes at one point, so I don't think it will turn off after that.

no solder glops that I could find.

no cold joints, as I resoldered the stuff several times, thinking that might have been the case.

What kind of batteries are you using? I know the SJ3 only takes like 50-100 ma, but your batteries may be dead.

It is a 350 ma 9 volt wall adaptor, not batteries. The wall adaptor is also hooked up to my hip gear screen too, but the same problems occured before the screen was attached.

Well, I would believe that. I bought another one for a failed project a while back, and after five minutes of teting it on my TV, the d-pad quit responding completely. This was even before I took the thing apart.

I think mine did that too before I broke it
Exactly.
These things crap out ALL the time, and usually there is no way to fix them because they are so poorly manufactured. Mine only started working when I replaced most, if not all of the components on the board. (Capacitors, resistors, etc.)
It's more of a pain then it is worth, to be honest.

Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:
