Is this Screen good for anything

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Is this Screen good for anything

Post by Nikoto27 »

Hello I'm a bit new tho I have been lurking un-registered for a while. I have a old portable tv that I no longer use. It is a CASIO pocket color television TV-2000 I will get pics in a day or two. it need to be back lit for the picture to be seen as it projects it to a mirror for viewing.
Is there any way I can use this screen for anything or is it not worth the time?

It needs to have a jack for video input. If it has that, then you can use it. Backlighting the screen isn't hard - just wire up some LEDs behind the screen with some type of plastic to diffuse the light and you should be good to go.

He'd need to keep the mirror, though, right? Otherwise, the picture will be flipped. Any mirror would work, though.

No matter which way he rotates it, the picture would be either upside down or flipped right-to-left.

Try playing SMB that way, running left through the worlds instead of right... it'd be challenging for once!

What a wonderful idea! I wish some emulators supported that. It would be like playing the game fresh again :D

Brilliant!!!
Yes, but it'd have to be one you know inside out (pun intended) because all text would be backwards too. In a game like SMB, that wouldn't make much difference.

Dude, that thing looks so old it probably isn't even a TFT display.
It'll be blurry.
Also, regarding the mirror problem, you could flip the LCD glass inside out. That would work, right? (Not like I've bothered trying; it would make everything inverted if it worked on screen. There is no mirror required.)
Finally, I have never seen that thing before. It's kind of a sloppy design to be honest.

Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

It's probably set up that way to cut down on glare - old screens aren't much in the way of brightness. And yes, I agree it's probably not TFT but instead the older STN.
