Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

good 3rd party controller to transplant to official shell?

Post by Diminuendo »

Wanted for the GC stick mod, is there anything with identical button spacing? or small enough to put in the shell with the original board?

you will still need to cut/break some plastic with a pair of pliers to make it fit inside of your official nintendo controller, and you need to remove the little circuit board inside with the turbo and start button, so that will need to be relocated.

If the turbo/slow buttons are on the actual board, you will have to jump them. When I made mine, I had to do this. I also had to dremel away all of the extra little peices of support plastic, and I had to use a tact switch for the "B" button, because it wouldn't line up correctly.

I'll check.

Ok, it's innovation brand. The cheapest I could find on ebay. I also replaced the c buttons with the cstick on my controller, but it was such a tight squeeze that it wouldn't work correctly. I highly reccomend NOT doing that. The gamecube joystick worked just fine.
Why are you going to leave the official n64 conroller board in there? you can just remove it...

Yeah, mine didn't work, I even tried using 2 differant joysticks but it seems like the joystick does whatever it wants and is allways going up. I briged the pins, but whatever. If this does eventually work, I'm going to make turbo clicking in on the thumbstick.

Also on the controller I showed you, the turbo cuircuit is on a seperate board then the main controller board.

I just want a controller that feels exactly like the official one other than a proper thumb stick, so don't worry I won't do the C-stick mod. I've got an official GC controller with a crapped out C-stick I can use anyway. I eventually plan to do this mod after I get It working on my N64. I know it seems like a longer road than I need to get what I want, but my main goal is the alternate button mappings. I also plan on placing a momentary off switch on the GC data line to cut the connection and allow me to reset the mappings on the fly. I might just switch the boards if it's easier and stable, i'm just willing to wire every button to the official controller board if i must.

btw, even though I'm not going to use it, useing the stick click for turbo sounds hot

If you want a decent turbo, you better get a high quality 3 party joystick. The turbo on mine was crap, it just made the screen all blocky and pixely, it didn't even speed it up.

As for the n64towii adapter, I'm pretty sure that SS did that, you could probably PM him for some info.

Since when have those existed?
Mine is fine, but it's on a Yobo controller, which I really recommend.
But on that same controller, the slo-mo SUCKS! All it does is pause the game every second, which gets really freaking annoying. It doesn't help, it just gets in the way.
Ok, I'm done with my rant.

I have one of those, but it is hard to hold, but once you get used to it, it ain't as bad. After getting used to it, though, it's really hard to transition to a regular controller.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't particularly like the button placement on that thing.

I wasn't recommending it, and neither was eurddrue.
He was just saying what he has and I was commenting on it. Besides, you would have to rewire everthing to get the buttons to line up on a first party controller.

Which would be extremely hard and pointless, when I'm sure there are decent controllers out there. Just look around on ebay for some that aren't cheap looking.
