the colors on my screen are inverted

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

the colors on my screen are inverted

Post by metalcookie »

i'm using a portable dvd player screen to make my portable n64. it's been tested and works, however now for some reason the screen will only tun on with a higher voltage and the colors are all inverted. the screen still works, as it will accept composite in and display the game, but it's all inverted and drawing way too much power. on the screen's board, i found a fuse that is making no connectivity. should i bypass it? if not, then what can i do?

If it's a fuse, I would say use the original voltage the screen took and jump it. Just be sure it's supposed to be conducting, though.

i already did, and it's still the same. although on the far left of the screen the colors are normal, but only like a line of pixels. i know this because on a/v mode, the screen is blue, and that part of the screen is blue, but only if i look at it at an angle. i did notice that it's drawing an ENORMOUS amount of energy, because on my power adapter the light dims when i plug it in, and when tested with a multimeter, it reads 3 volts, when i selected 9 volts. i tested it without the dvd player and plugged into my battery and it read 9 volts. i'm starting to think that maybe the backlight part of the circuit is fried, but it has no control over how much power it draws, so it's drawing as much power it can, causing it to be really, really bright and causing the whole circuit to run at a higher voltage. i'm not sure, but if this is the problem, then i will do the led backlight mod. if now, then i guess i need to buy a PSone screen.

i don't think the colors are inverted anymore, because i have to tilt it just to see the colors, and this usually causes the colors to look different.
or i could just be a noob and have any idea what i'm doing

i figured out the problem. i did fry the backlight circuit, or damaged it, because the backlight is not lighting correctly. for some reason it is giving off a light pinkish bright color, and, with it off i couldn't see anything, but when i held it against a lamp, i could see the normal colors. i think this is a good thing, because now i have to do the backlight mod, which will save a lot of power
