So long, folks... (yeah, I know... I suck)

Post by SpongeBuell »

Sorry guys, it's just a 4/1 joke. Here's what I had, though...

Well, nobody expected me to stay here forever... I don't think any of us have expected it to be this way, though.

Today, I was driving around town, taking pictures. They've got this one bridge on the highway that has an AWESOME view on the river. Well, someone cut off the car in front of me, they hit the brakes too much. When taking the picture, I didn't realize that this car was right in front of me. I was going 75MPH on I-94. They, well... weren't. Considering my car (well, what was a car) was a giant metal brick on wheels, heavy bugger, it did quite a bit of damage to the Geo in front of me.

Long story short, I found out the hard way that my insurance was expired. I'm ok, but one person in the other car isn't. The other is even worse, died on the way to the hospital. Because I rear ended them, I'm at fault. I'm going to have to drop out of school, move back home, sell what stuff I have (most notably, my laptop) and try to put a dent (ugh, bad pun) in the medical bills. Not only that, but I may face charges down the road for 3rd degree criminal vehicular homicide, which will likely include bit of time in prison. The good(ish) news is, that realistically carries a prison term of 5 years and probation, as opposed to the maximum of 25. Still, given what happened to those guys, I feel awful about it. This is gonna haunt me for years to come.

You all have been awesome to hang out with. All the different MGCs especially, have been awesome, being able to meet you all. Sorry to make it end like this, I really wish it didn't have to be that way. I will likely be in the Jackson County Correctional Institute outside of Black River Falls, WI once everything is settled in a few months.

Be careful driving out there, guys... it can be dangerous. :(

Goodbye, all.

Wow. I really hope you the best of luck with everything and I hope it all works out okay. It really sucks to see things like this happen, but I don't think you should blame yourself. I realize that there is no possible way I could have even the slightest thought of even almost grasping the way you might feel, but I really do wish you and everyone involved the best of luck. Accidents happen and there is no one to point the finger at. It appears as though a few people will be added to my prayers.

I wasn't taking pictures in the car at MGC, just looking for a bridge with lights going down the stream (never did find it)

This time, I was, and that's what makes me feel so bad. I could have (and sure as hell should have) easily prevented it. But I was negligent, and this is where it's got me.

I'll let you guys know what happens as I can, but don't expect me here much in the near future...

Wow, that sucks.

Would've thought all the vintage computer equipment in the trunk would've protected the guy in the yellow Geo.

Yeah, I try to keep BH and Facebook somewhat separate by only friend requesting (and accepting) people I know or am on the brink of meeting at the very least. Nothing against you personally.

Sponge :(

Let this be a reminder for all that a car is a weapon. When you are behind the wheel, you should drive and drive only. No cell phones, no fiddling with the radio, no texting. Its a grim reality that something can go bad in a fraction of a second (weather you are paying attention or not) and Sponge I'm sorry you had to be reminded of this first hand. Stay strong and I wish you best of luck in this troubled time, and you know that we will be here for you if you need anything at all
