Chess
Does anybody on here play chess? I've been playing for quite a while now. Maybe we could do some sort of online benheck chess tourney if enough people play
It will probably just get forgotten along with all of the other competitions on here. Maybe we could discuss our favorite openings/defenses/offences?

Re: Chess
Well, I'm not getting any advice from you
I need help beating this "chick" (doesn't play chess like a girl) at our school. We are in the finals of our tournement. She has the upper hand right now, because I made a stupid move to lose a rook and a queen, but we will have to start over. She refuses to comply with the rule that the queen takes her own color, so she may be subjected to forfeit for not following the rules.
I will talk to the lady in charge. Any advice on how to beat somebody who makes weird weird moves that develope into crazy lucky plays that win?

Re: Chess
For some reason this reminds me of the chess games back in the day that you would mail to people.
One person would make a move, write down the move, and mail it.
Repeat like 50 times.
It'd be faster and still kinda fun over the forums.

Re: Chess
I used to be in the chess club in elementary school.
I loved the thinking and planning element of the game

Re: Chess
I know how to play, but I'm pretty terrible.
Once, I won a game with a move that was sitting there in front of me for about 5 moves before I noticed it.
Nonetheless, this sounds like it could be fun.

Re: Chess
I fail at chess, but I still beat my best friend twice. Wait, he fails at chess too.
Re: Chess
Depends on how you "Castle". Meaning if you should be forfeit, as well.eurddrue wrote:I need help beating this "chick" (doesn't play chess like a girl) at our school. If you play chess with me, I expect one of two very unknown rules to be followed. These rules are En Passant (Link explains the rule if you don't understand it). And the rule of Castling your king in the way it was done hundreds of years ago. Meaning, just before you do that series of moves, you stand and proudly and in a noble-like voice "MY KING SHALL CASTLE" followed by a slight bow before sitting down to complete your turn. 99 out of 100 chess rule books will not mention this rule. Lets keep it alive, people. Besides, you might impress somebody by knowing so much about this game.
No lie. It's one of the oldest and most unknown and/or most ignored rules in chess.
On a personal note, I wont follow the rule of Queen taking her own color because it was not in the original rules (Where the rules I mentioned are - though not totally original - a lot older and MORE original (IE: Older than dirt).). It's actually fairly new, only being about 70-80 years old (Might be a few years off on that. The link to the En Passant rule is a very well done site and doesn't mention this rule. Even rulebooks who mention the Castling rule I mentioned above don't mention this rule.).
If you cant beat her with whats in this post and whats in that link, then you can't win. ^_^. Good luck.
Please keep an eye on my HBN64 progress.

Re: Chess
Well, if they ignore those rules, then I say its not worth trying to win. It's pointless, really. Those rules are there for a reason.eurddrue wrote: I know both of those rules!!@then when she castled, and I called an illegal move, our chess lady ( she wanted the chick to win of course
) supervising claimed I was making up rules, like en passant, the castling rule, and queen takes it's own color rule.
Of course I lost, every time I called an illegal move, or anything like that, the supervisor shot it down.
