going to try a GBC hack

i just got a new gameboy color and thought: hey, lets use my old one for kindling, then decided i'd try a few things out on it.

i've never done a console or portable hack/mod or anything, my ultimate goal is this:
-make the GBC about half it's original size, or at least smaller
-put an LED hack into it/make the screen backlit
-perhaps make the d-pad & buttons light up
-better/louder speakers (not high on my list of priorities)

does anyone know anything at all about this? have any pointers?

help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just a note: The GBC is really, really small. You can shave the bump for the AA batteries off the back if you use a li-ion and a charging circuit, but that it about it. Jamming it in a Gameboy Pocket case is possible, but not worth it.

You can frontlight it, check Bibin and my threads on it. You will want AR film for best results.

For the buttons, do not bother. If you want LEDs, then use a clear case.

For speakers, YES! Very worthwhile. I am going to get around to bondo'ing a GBC to have two speaker holes with a new amp hooked up to the prosound mod points, and dual headphone jacks, one for headphones, and the other for prosound line-out.

Agreed, I broke my switch and didn't feel like buying another one, but the overclock is definantly worth it for games with lots of walking coughcoughpokemoncoughcough

thanks very much, i'll look up how to do this.

updated goals:
-get necessary tools/wires/LED's/Etc.
-Repaint case
-backlight (and glare resist)
-red LED's behind the d-pad and buttons (have outside glow if possible, i don't want to switch from using what i already have)
-figure out how to & overclock /w/ switch cough*aloneinthedark*cough
-figure out what's wrong with the current GBC speakers (really low and distorted output) and try to either fix/replace/upgrade them
-play.

ok, i got the white LED's (4 total and 7000mcd each), and some wiring, i have solder and all that, unfortunately, Radioshack here has absolutely F*%$ing nothing, so i'm still needing the triple screwdriver which i'll buy online. I'm also going to look up more tutorials on how to do it, if you guys have any direct links on the process, that''d be great.

You cannot backlight a GBC, only frontlight it. Bibin made a tutorial for GBA, it will also work for GBC.

You are going to need a GBA SP light distributor panel, either way.
