Spherical Potentiometer Analog Control

This is my first post. Im a amateur modder. I modded my Xbox 360 Controller Right Analog Stick and replaced the indented factory stick with a rounded dual shock ps2 stick. I then modded my Socom Headset from ps2 into a kyocera hands-free cell phone mic (1/8th in. jack). I was studying Adam Thole's accelerometer joystick mod, and I had a few ideas, a trackball right analog mod, a touchpad right analog mod (or any pressure sensitive pad mod), and a spherical potentiometer right analog mod. The one which seemed the most feasible and combined at least two of the ideas and showed the most ease and simplicity was the spherical pot mod. I didn't know if a spherical pot had even been invented yet, but lo and behold a search on free patents revealed it actually exists. I was wondering if anybody had such an idea, has found any spherical pots manufacturers or had tried this idea at all. I appreciate any feedback, and would gladly accept any help if this project does prove feasible. I was originally thinking about chopping off the thumbstick portion of the right analog stick, leaving the rounded part still attacked to the pots, and adding a rubber nubby thing on it, like the stock xbox thumbstick.

While googling around the internet i was unable to find any examples of spherical potentiometers manufactured. This would probably be something that would need custom building. Nevertheless, I found a perfect example of the utilization of this particular configuration.
