Just ordered mine today.

Post by Doofus »

I went to the local Waldenbooks and they're gonna order it for me, that way I can look through it and see if I want it (probably will), before I buy it.

I'm sad though, because he doesn't include instructions on how to do a N64 portable (I'm assuming because he made the portable after he finished the book). But, I'm pretty sure, as you guys can answer for me, that the book will teach me enough to figure it out on my own (since it should have SOME similarities to its predecessors, like the SNES, right?).

I'm still having trouble finding a screen within my budget in the area, which means I'm probable going to have to resort to Ebay, which works, but it isn't my favorite option. Can any of you veterans recommend specific screens? Most of the posts I've seen recommend the PSOne screen, some sites say the GameCube screen is a pretty good choice. Is there a universal "Top Ten List" of screens, that everyone could mutually agree on? Or is some of it based on budget/preference?

Thanks in advance, can't wait to get the book.

It's almost completely based on budget and preference. A company called Hip Gear makes controllers with screens built in. They're a good choice. Yes, the Playstation 1 screen is listed a lot, mainly because of its size and relatively low price.

Check the sticky thread under "Portable Screen Hacking" for more information.

Are there major issues with the Gamecube screen? Or what?

The pixels don't die that easily(unless you through your screen against the wall), not many differences from PS1 screen, N64 has a 12V line(most people hook up 12V atleast).

also, my gc screen refuses to run on 12V battery power. Seems to run fine with my 12V psu though.

yeah, surprisingly enough, that would always happen to me also with any GC screens I got :?......RPGTKNick's N64p had one of those and he actually had to put 18v into it to work ......that's why psone screens are the way to go for a big screen portable ;)....
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I misread, I thought he mentioned a specific screen. It depends which one you use. There are 3 types, and I know that the Interac has some issues.
