C-stick for button replacement...

Post by S q u e e ! »

Could I take the C-stick from a broken GC controller and use it instead of the 4 buttons? I really don't care how much wiring it might take, but if it can't be done, please let me know. Thanks!

hmm... maybe with the use of some a/d converters and a few comparators.

I'm not sure if this would work or not, but here's a very poorly drawn picture of how you might hook it up:

Since the stick would be giving an analog signal, you'd probably have to push it all the way one direction for it to register.

Disclaimer: I've never seen the inside of a GC controller, so I do not know if the potentiometers actually look like that. :P

Are you sure you haven't seen the inside of a GC controller before? Because that is axactly what it looks like.

So does this GC C-stick mod have any possibility of working, cause it would be a whole lot better with games that use the c-button a lot, Goldeneye (guessing kinda would feel like a newer FPS like Halo with 2 thumbsticks), Robotron 64, and games like that.... makes me wanna try if I had a GC controller... or any knowledge about them :o

Yea gannon's right, you would need some comparators or something that can determine when the c-stick reaches a certain point. Don't forget, if you did get this working, you would have to press it perfectly in one direction, or it would be like pressing 2 buttons at once.

And if you need to push opposite C buttons, you couldn't. You could make some sort of joystick that would just go on top of the C buttons and could be removed for other games.

you wanna know the simplest thing you can do? you take the buttons, put them in the socket so the gc stick will hit them, problem solved

in Ben's book, he shows you how to do something similar with the Atari controller.....first, he got a PSone analog stick and wired it up like how goodie said to the Atari board. then, he simply wired a 4.7K ohm resitor between each potentiometer pin and ground. that way, you don't have to push so much on the analog stick to make it work :D...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Sam's would work, but I think you would want a star instead, so you could atleast use 2 Cs at once. VSKid was right though, you're screwed if you need to press opposite buttons.
