I would go with that, or get the new dsi if it get's new reviews. Unless you like the feel of the old ds or something like that.
It may also help if we knew why you wanted to do it. Like for the brightness or the different shaped screen.

Get the first-run DS lites. The newer DS lites have awful ghosty LCD's, almost as bad as the PSP ones.

Re: Nintendo ds original question
The ds has slightly different software then the ds lite. When you get to the main menu and press the light button it has 4 levels of brightness, and the old ds just has 2, so even if they were the same screen with the same plugs I doubt it would even work. You would be better buying a dslite and putting all of the guts inside that black shell you bought. So you'll have the feel of the old ds and the brighter screens.N64freak wrote:ya i really like the feel of the case so i wanted to put brighter screens on it. i am also getting a black shell for it

Or you could transplant a DS Lite LED strip from a $9 DS Lite screen, and transplant it into the DS Original like I did.
From the fact you have to ask, though, it is probably beyond your skill level.

Re: Nintendo ds original question
It is actually pretty easy.
Depending on the revision, you just have to solder to either the mobo, the screen ribbon, or the "breakout board" for the LCD.
Post some pics when you start, I can label the points for you.
