What do yer thinks happening to Sony?

Post by BoomBox-Creations »

Well.

I think Sony have given up on the PSP, or they are planing something.. massive..

Sony hasnt updated the official firmware for the PSP since... well, the 20th of January 2009...

And its now March 5th....

I think there is something wrong there...

But also, Same with the PS3, there hasnt been an update with that either... the last it was updated was to 2.60, and that was on the 23rd of January... I ( get the update here: http://rapidshare.com/files/186997399/260.PUP rename to PS3UPDAT.PUP and put it in Storage Media/USb device-->PS3-->UPDATE and run on PS3... )

I think with the PS3, since people are creating their own software for it, and installing Linux and other OS's on it, Sony aernt really bothered to update much...

But why the PSP? Maybe homebrew is getting to them. or are they scared that our PSP hackers have found a way to mod them/ getting close to it?

Anybody have any ideas or want to expand on what im saying?

Do it here!

Lolwut?

Are you kidding me?

Do you realize for how LONG we've had homebrew?
For how long we've run backups?

"Maybe homebrew is getting to them."
What is it, 2005?

We've gone longer than this without updates before, it ain't a big deal man.
Homebrew isn't doing anything at this point, at least on Sony's end.

I hope I'm not the only one who remembers May of 05'.

Woah, barely more than a month with no updates? OMG!

Why would they update? Security? The PSP 1000 and 2000 are done, and the 3000 is hack proof. What would they do?

I think that maybe if you did somehting other than check every single day for a new PSP update, you would realize that... Well, nothing is weird here. Like, at all.

The Wii very often goes longer than that without firmware updates, now that it's not new anymore and they don't have as many features and security to add.

I've heard rumors that the next PS3 update is going to be huge, so it could just be taking them a while to get everything set.

Xbox 360 updates are usually pretty spread out. In January there was one for an HDMI issue and the last one before that was the NXE. Why does Sony, or Microsoft, or anyone, need to be pushing out new firmware every week? It just means that they haven't had any big issues recently (which is a good sign) and that any new features they may be working on aren't ready yet.

The only time I think you can say that a company is abandoning their product (in videogame terms) is if fewer games are released or the obvious sign of them no longer supporting the hardware. I don't think Sony is doing either of those, so everything's fine.

Heck, the Linux kernel sometimes goes that long without an update, and some of these Linux devs are just INSANE about fixing or changing any little minuscule detail they can possibly think of.

There comes a point when the latest update is plenty good enough, especially since nothing else is changing.

I also remind you we're all in a recession, what's the point of hiring people to do crap only one person cares about, and nobody would miss?

I wouldn't call the PS3's last update "plenty good enough," not by a long shot, especially when there are so many more options that we want. I mean, an enhanced way to view photos? That was a mandatory download? Where's our cross-game invites and voice chat, Sony?

you have voice chat, well on the PS3 anyway...

apparently, rudd thinks to see that his stimulus package will keep AUS out of it... but im waiting to see what happens...

But in that time, my job is secure and high paying, so im ready to lose a few hours to spend time friends and family...

yes. but the rest of the oprating system makes up for that. the components for the linux kernel are always being updated..

And that is a whole operating system. it took me an hour to change my computer from win XP to linux ubuntu...

maybe eh. the Wii and DS combined are selling more than double the amount per year than the PS3 and PSP combined are selling...

and if i meant you, i think i would have put the Portableizer at the end of Sony...

micorsoft doesnt really have anything to worry about. they cant stop us from hacking their product.

we do mods like make it into a laptop. its not really that hard to change the incompatible disc drive to a compatible one with the custom firmware for the drive...

plus microsoft doesnt know crap so that would be another reason for no updates...

i never said they were abandoning it...

Twilight Wolf wrote:I've heard rumors that the next PS3 update is going to be huge, so it could just be taking them a while to get everything set.
well. i wonder what they are going to add... maybe a ban for installing liunx or other OS's onto the system...

because the Wii has nothing to worry about. its more next-gen than the PS3 or 360...

well. they have updated security and nothing else since 5.00

and same since 3.80 to 4.05. adding very few features..

it isnt hack proof. the hardware can be hacked. just the TA 90 chip...

i dont check every single day for a psp update... i have other things to do...

I never said anything about stopping people from hacking the 360. Most of the updates to the 360 are new features or bug fixes (usually related to audio/video compatibility). You're right, people can mod their Xboxes pretty easily, and Microsoft's deterrent for that is that they'll ban you from Xbox Live. If you don't care about playing online then go ahead; otherwise you should think about it before modding. Seems like a fair tradeoff to me. But anyway, that's not what I meant when I made my comment.

"microsoft doesnt know crap," spoken like a true Sony fanboy. Now anyone that's seen me post around the forums knows that I like Macs and Mac OS X, but I'll still give Microsoft credit for being in the software business for a helluva long time. And while I still prefer OS X to Windows, they have been improving, and I think that their expertise has been well applied to the Xbox platform. I can't really compare it to Sony and the Playstation, since I'll admit I haven't used the PS3 that much. I can state as a fact, however, that Microsoft has been in the business of creating operating systems and patches for a lot longer than Sony has, so I think saying they 'know nothing,' (to paraphrase) is a bit unfair.

Overall I think the 360 is quite a stable platform, software-wise, so maybe that's why there aren't a huge amount of updates, except when they're adding new features.
I think Sony have given up on the PSP, or they are planing something.. massive..

Lol, we've had backups since well before 3.1, trust me.
And what do you mean "too close to hacking the PSP"?
We have custom firmware, we can already make homebrew for it, we can put it into service mode, play backups, rip UMD's, use SD cards in it, play Ad-hoc only games Online, use cheats in real games, use cheats in backups, we even have full replacements for the XMB, not to mention the ability to stream ISO's and CSO's from a computer to the PSP in real-time.

Again, what do you mean "hacking the PSP"?
What exactly do you think we could be getting close to? I'm honestly asking, I don't want to sound angry or anything here.

Also, 3.10 came out in early 07'.

Actually, we've had PSP Backups since 2005, the year the PSP was released.
In early May of 05' we saw the first "proof of concept" backups, a handful of Videos, etc. (Wipeout, anyone?)
We had full-blown *everyone's invited* backups since July of 05', with compatibility increasing steadily since then.
With the onset of custom firmware and full UMD Emulation, backups are at all but 100% compatibility.

well, i havent been in the PSP hacking buisness since Mid '07...

Giving up is a lot like abandoning, sorry if I misinterpreted what you said.

I dont like microsoft. so any game console/OS is better than microsoft in my mind.

I do prefer the playstation better than the xbox, but i prefer the atari consoles better than xobx aswell...

for OS's i do prefer mac ( like you ) and i like linux also.

i only use windows, because most of the things that are with hacking the PSP, they only support windows.

thats why all of my computers are dual booted with linux and another operating system.

so far i have 2 PC's, 1 with mac and linux, and the other with win and linux.

And the only reason i use the 360 for is the games that they dont have for the PS2/PS3. i could emulate them onto the PS3, but i really cant be bothered at the moment.

I think Sony have given up on the PSP, or they are planing something.. massive..
Giving up is a lot like abandoning, sorry if I misinterpreted what you said.
now im misinterperiting what you said.... sorry...

but you are right, giving up is a lot like abandoning. but there is 1 noticable difference, if they were giving up, games are still being made for them. abandoning, games are slowing to a halt/not being made any more... like the PS1 is abanonded and the PS2 is being given up.

well.... because they are stuck up pricks... if they were worried about the advantages of the competition, they would still allow homebrew on the 3k, to comete with the DS... but they still dont have a chance...
