Possible new idea for LED mod. am i crazy?

ok, so i haven't got my screen in the mail yet, so i have NO IDEA if this will actually work. i don't even know if there is enough room, or if this is even a reasonable concept. i've never opened up a screen before.

however, i have an idea to even out the lighting on the LED mod. now if this is totally stupid go easy on me. but here's what i'm thinking.

if i add four glass tubes (glass straws) beside each LED i can use the Tubes to carry the light across the edge more evenly.

i could paint over some of the LED to better direct the light in one direction. like so.



that would direct the light into the tubes, and keep it from being so bright in the corners.

then, if i painted one side of the tubes with a reflective paint, i could better direct all the light out of the tubes onto the screen



now in my head it should all come together like this.



once again, i have no idea if this will work. i've never done this, and haven't even had a chance to experiment. does anyone this this is a good idea, or that it will even work? is it something i should pursue?

my worries are: 1) that the tubes wont fit. and 2) that this will just make it noticeably brighter around the whole perimeter of the screen in stead of just the corners.

Glass conducts light, it is not good at diffusing unless it is engineered to do so. This would probably do nothing, and if it did, it would just lower the total brightness. That is what the white reflective paper is in the channels for; To spread the light evenly.

You might be able to do something with a solid glass rod, the ends will disperse light MUCH better.

and if you rough up the side that will be facing the screen, that might also help.

Okay idea in theory, but then you must consider reality.

1) The glass tubes/rods can't be thicker than 4mm Outside Diameter (OD) or they will not fit.

My logic may be flawed. Assuming a solid glass tube, at an incident angle of 89 degrees, the light will be bent very little. The light will be reflected inside the glass tube until it comes out the other end. With the space constraints, this is virtually unavoidable.

Well the only way to see if it will work is to try it out.

Wouldn't that actually help the mod? The refraction would bend the light outward towards the screen or inwards towards the reflective paint. Either way, it's a win win situation.
