Atari 2600 JR fixable?

Post by trevor »

Hi Everyone,

I just found an old Atari 2600 JR in my girlfriends parents basement. Anyways the power cord for it was broken, and from the looks of things one of her brothers must have tried splicing the 1/8" headphone jack onto another random adapter that was lying around the house, a 12v 300mah AC adapter. Anyways I looked around online and found that it needed a 9v 500mah adapter (am i right?) and I found one in the house so I soldered a new power adapter together, plugged everything in, and I don't think it works. No LED light.

So I assume that the old power adapter that was attached to it must have fried something. Anyone know what probably got fried? Or how I would find out? Or is it even worth trying to fix?

Thanks in advance,

Trevor

The last 2600 JR I had apart went straight to a 7805 power regulator. Most of them can handle 12V without blowing.

Try swapping the positive and grounds on your power adapter.

i had a similar issue too. i had an old heavy sixer atari 2600. i had used the adapter for something else, and it was fried. i tried a different adapter that was still 9 volts. my beloved atari went up in SMOKE

ten years later i was fourteen, had a little extra birthday and bought my first thing off ebay: an atari 2600.
