Aspire 5600 charge problem
I just got an Aspire 5600 as a gift. The person who gave it to me bought another laptop. Anyway, when I turn the laptop on the battery's charge is 1%. When I booted Ubuntu(live cd) the status was "Excellent...1%...charging". The person I got it from said "It works, but only when it is plugged in." I am not sure, but is there a problem with the battery or the voltage regulator? Is the light for battery status supposed to be yellow while it charges, then turn green when it is done? I believe it is, but I'm not sure.

Sounds like the battery's dead. Check its voltage with a multimeter.
If it is, you have two options: buy a new battery (expensive), or put new battery cells in the one you have (cheaper but tricky).

Re: Aspire 5600 charge problem
The voltage is low and everytime I check it, somehow it is charging. A week ago it read to be 2% and charging, but then just this week it read 3% and charging? Is the battery just very low and in need of a charge or do I need to buy another battery?
