Okay, first post, so, you know, gentleness and all that. What I'm wondering is, since I happen to have about 4 or 5 busted laptops, (not worth fixing, hard drive messed up, motherboard fried, just generally not worth the time and effort) can the screens be used for creating a portable? I haven't really done much work (read: none at all), but am thinking about giving it a try. Something to do in the off time.
When I last worked on the screens, I noticed that you couldn't just switch them out from laptop to laptop, because of different ribbons. What I want to know if it's possible to just get down and dirty with a soldering gun and get it done anyways. And if it is, and there is a guide to stuff like that somewhere, (rudimentary of course) I would really appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks in advance guys.

nope, not possible. Any screen that uses a digital signal will not work. It needs to be able to do analog. pocket tv's, gaming screens, some portable dvd player screens, etc. will work.
