line in problems

im trying to play audio from tv through my computer (xp) and to my computer speakers.
do i need a specific program

well I suppose you could put the TV sound out to the mic in port on your PC, then you'd just have to make it... hearable somehow

Is there a reason you need the sound to run through your computer before going to the computer speakers?

Not for watching straight tv, but if you ever wanted to record something, you'd need to rewire the connections to get sound. Unless of course it's a black and white subtitled thing.

You could use a 1/8" jack splitter and connect one to the computer and the other the the speakers.

As far as a program, no. Either connect it to the microphone port, or preferably the line in port on your sound card (pink and black respectively, if I remember correctly).

TV tuner line out (red and white) -> RCA to mini-jack cable -> PC line in (blue port)

Simple as that.

However, you're not likely to have audio out on a TV (unless they've been throwing that in for kicks lately), so you might have to use a VCR or cable box.

You can make it run the audio through the speakers by selecting "Line In" in the Volume Control accessory. (Adjust the input and output volumes.)
