Stripped-down VCR

Hi

I have an Atari 2600 connected to my Commodore 1702 monitor using an old VCR. I connect the 2600's RF output to the VCR's RF input, then I connect the VCR's Audio/Video outputs to the 1702's Audio/Video inputs.

The problem is that the VCR takes a lot of space, and I don't use it to play videotapes. I don't use it to watch TV cable either. I only use it on channel 2/3 to see my 2600.

Is there a way I can take all the VCR mechanics apart, and keep only the electronics parts related to TV tuning, and Audio/Video input/output? Something like Ben did with it's portable 2600, he took a 2600 and took away different parts of it, and only kept the core of the board...

Has anybody done something like this?

Personally, I think you'd be better off doing an AV mod to your Atari to get composite out with RCA cables. Check here for some how-to guides. You'd be able to get rid of the VCR all together, then.

Second. Any AV mod on the 2600 will improve the picture dramatically.

I'm a little purist, and I'd like to keep my 2600 the way it is, without modding it...

alright then. Suggestion: Open your VCR, look for an RF box, if there is one, it should be fairly easy. If it's just part of the general circuitry, you might have to use a large portion of the board

Just buy an RF box for like $5 on ebay.
