soldering iron ?

hi guys just getting the stuff i need to make my first portable. Im making the ps1 portable project, getting the ben heck book form christmas, so i thougth ok i have a psone kicking about, i have a ps1 screen on the way, and i have a few of those sony rechargable batterys from a few old cameras, all i need is the toolss,

so guys what do u think of these 3 soldering irons, would they do the job, and which one do u think is best.

Butane irons are actually fairly nice. No cord to deal with, and they're fairly light in the hand. The biggest problem is being able to tell just how hot the iron gets, with the electric irons you can get a decent idea off the wattage.

Overall though, I'd recommend the first one you linked. It looks fairly comfortable in the hand, has adjustable heat, it says it can be used as a hot air gun. Not sure just how great that'd be, but it would probably work well if you had no other choice. Looks good to me

Well, to be fair, If you want something cordless you can use a battery powered one as well. The whole butane thing seems kind of bothersome to me...

All Battery Powered ones I used suck complete ass.

My Iinfo Tech teacher Ordered a Weller Battery Power Iron, and me and my buddy were fixing a power connector on the back of a laptop, and the damned thing wouldn't melt for crap, ended up using my teachers Wired Weller Iron.

I could only see a battery powered iron lasting for a usable amount of time if it used an external battery. Butane irons are pretty sweet. My dad has one, I used it once and it heated up in less than a minute. It was also nice to not have a cord.

For comparison, a 40W Soldering Iron has a maximum tip temperature of 975 F.

The first butane one is 2500 F. But it IS adjustable. On the lowest setting, it should be about good.

thanks for the input guys, em my reason for gettin a battery one was my m8 had one, it was like a dear snapon one but it was awsome.

Looks like ill need to wait till after xmas to get a soldering iron anyways, had a little problem for xmas, had to spend more money, ur probs not interested but i need to vent a little, so please bare with.

Bought my girlfriend an eee 900 netbook from ebay for her xmas, power seller brand new, it came and the carboard was missing, so it had been rattaling around in the box, and the charger, battery had been opened, i was not amussed. So i went to asda and bought her one of those acer aspire one's they had (was on offer) and now im awaiting a refund from this twat whoch i will recieve on the 20th december, so no soldering iron to after xmas.

But if u guy have any u could recomend, cheap ones that do the job, that would post to the uk, that would be awsome, thanks

Search on e-bay for "30w soldering iron". I use the yellow handled ones. Get one with pointed tip (pencil point). Just bought another spare one, cos Â£3.88 including postage (I am UK too).

Soldering irons only last a few weeks, before the tip starts to burn itself through (I find anyway), at this price, not a problem!

you should see our soldering iron tip. don't think its ever been changed.

awsome, well ill have a look after xmas, need to wait, bought another ps1 and a ps1 screen, only cost me 25 quid.

How about a desoldering iron for the same project?

You know, you could just buy a proper one...

I'm lucky to have the 200â‚¬ Weller soldering iron of my father...
