your off by exactly half a decade. 2001 in japan and 98 or 99 in the states was the last year for laserdisc. HLD-X9 was one of the last ones

Laserdiscs were the Blu-Rays of the 90's.

Actually, no, take that back, Blu-Ray already has more saturation. But you get my point.

i think ben is right, bluray of the 70s-90s as laserdisc was the highest quality video format you could buy (other than theatre 35mm reels lol) up until DVD came out and even competed with dvd for a few years before it dropped off the map. some of the very last laserdisc players were laserdisc dvd combo players (the last standalone players were the higest quality ones)

Or you could just be like "lol, you fixed it with a paperclip, sweet" instead of just crap all over everything, just a thought, you know, since its so important that I know when the Japanese stopped making Laserdisc players even though 96 is when they practically died in the US. I thought maybe someone would be entertained by such an unorthodox fix, but I guess all the 1337 hAxORz here are just too 1337 for that. Did I mention that was my video and not just something I found on youtube?

not crapping on your vid or whatever, that you fixed an LD player with a paperclip is pretty cool, just pointing out that your statement was incorrect by 2-3 years in the US and half a decade in japan. laserdisc did not die as a video format until late 98 early 99 for LD only playersin the us and 02-03 for combi-players (dvd/LD) in japan the LD format (and muse hi-vision) lasted till 01-02 or so
