Are AM2 Processors limited to only DDR2 800?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Are all AM2 processors limited to DDR2 800? cause I am seeing allot of AM2/AM2+ boards that only support 1066 DDR2 with AM2+ processors.

Yes, AM2 boards don't support DDR3. The upcoming AM3 boards, however, will. (As long as you're willing to wait.) At the moment there isn't too much of a difference anyway, since most DDR2 RAM has lower latency.

If you absolutely have to have DDR3, might I suggest a Core i7 920? The processor itself is $300* (and most motherboards for it are around the same price), but it pisses all over the Phenom. (Heck, even some of the LGA775 Core 2 Quads do that.)

A couple charts I found on a foreign site Engadget linked to,:

* for the 2.6 ghz i7, which (oddly enough) is cheaper than a Q9550 at Tiger Direct.
