USB Controller Potentiometer's

I want to make an analogue foot pedal for my computer to control audio effects. I know I can use an controller's joysticks to control parameters, but I'd like to build a foot pedal, so I can use my feet. (Obviously)

Joysticks in game controllers (mine is a Logitech that looks like a PS2 controller) are controller with potentiometers, and so are the pedals I got at Goodwill for a dollar (they were N64 racing pedals. The wheel was there too, but I already have one). Can these pots be uses interchangeably, or are pots more complicated then that? They both have 3 legs, so I'm just going to desolder the joystick, and wire it to the pot in the pedal. That should work right?

It depends on the values of the pots and how the USB joystick is constructed. It should work to some degree at least, but the response curve might be messed up.

Well, I tried it, and it worked perfectly. It was a little messed up, but after calibrating it in the control panel in Windows, it works perfectly.
