Moultree "Digital Picture Viewer"- usesTV-out

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Moultree "Digital Picture Viewer"- usesTV-out

Post by tom61 »

I found one of these on clearance for $25 amongst the mostly unusable pocket digital picture frames. However, this one caught my eye with the words "Works with any camera with TV-out" on the package. 2" screen, which I could use for a portable idea I have. It turns out to be designed to connect to Moultree's digital game cameras (the kind that you put out in a field or forest and leave it take pictures of animals [aka "game"]).

I've not yet gotten anything to display on it so far. The pinout is fairly easy to figure out, seeing as there is only 3 pins (only two connected) and internal power, but I haven't even gotten the backlight to glow. It has a TI 5150AM1 video ADC/decoder and a F9222 which appears to be a microcontroller to tell the 5150AM1 what mode to operate in.

I'm wondering if my screen is defective, or it is expecting some sort of on signal. I have tried powering it on with NTSC video already supplied, but no luck. Anyone else have one?

I don't have an answer but I can offer this bit of info.

Digital Picture Viewers usually have a horrible refresh rate so they will look bad with video.

At least that is my experience.
