cartridge slot relocation

Post by newguy101 »

surfed through the forums and cant seem to find a good quality pic of the cartridge slot relocation. i relocated it and cant get it to work, using the manufacturer's power input and a/v output. to make sure im correct, the white letters face towards the rear of the unit right? and you solder to the 2 outside rows of pins right? also since there are 2 more solder point than pins, i just skip those and keep going. i think i may just have the cart slot backwards since my white letters are facing to the front. the jumper pack is in place as well so just has to be something wired up with the cart slot. all wires are connected and not touching.

Easy rule of thumb - game cart faces the front (towards the four controller port). You probably wired it back to front, easy to do; or soldered the top layer to the bottom layer and vise-versa.

also dont put the jumper pack in backwards... Without the case it can go in either way. The wrong way will short your power supply.

And you've checked each wire to make sure it was connected to the right pin?

(use a continuity meter (usually on multimeters) to check if they're connected)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

yes i did check all the wires with a meter, but the first 2 pins(starting from the left facing the console) seem to be connected as well as the 1st 2 pins on the other row. in fact all 4 are connected on the board, not the cart slot itself. ive taken off all wires and removed all solder and am convinced that they are supposed to be connected. anyway... yes the red light does come on, checked and rechecked all the a/v and power connections as well as power and reset switches. just kinda frustrated since it still doesnt want to work. but thanks for the input, keep em comin =)

There's more than one ground pin; those wires you mentioned that seem to be connected are just ground. How can you check? See if it's connected to ground with your multimeter :P.

The only thing I can do right now is suggest you take a look at my thread on troubleshooting/testing the N64. If you go through that, and the cart. slot is wired fine, then it might be that your N64 is fried :(. Sadly, that happens....

ok so when i do turn on my N64 it makes a deeper popping noise, and the screen flashes(just once) a greenish color.... if that even means anything. hopin that either means its fried or not

Deeper popping noise maybe components frying - you haven't put too much voltage through the 3.3v line??

Could also be arcing inside of the switch, due to a short.

Does the LED turn on, and does it stay on?
