Well, I'm reformatting, and I want to install linux onto a partition of my HD. I have a 70 gig HD, and I was thinking maybe doing 50 for Windows and 20 for Ubuntu. Is that neccesary? Or do i just need the 5 min for Ubuntu and then leech of the windows partition?

I have a 160 GB HD, so I didn't bother figuring out a good ratio.
But, a lot of people make three partitions, a windows system partition, a linux system partition, and a data partition. that way the all of your files can be easily accessed by both OSes with ease. and another thing is a lot of people install the "/home" folder on a separate partition so that they can reformat and reinstall their linux partition without any real hassle.

on my old laptop i had a 5gb partition for ubuntu and the rest for windows
