I don't know if the UK has something like this. probably something obvious to some, but I got some batteries like the ones marshallh used in his L64 for free on craigslist.
I simply asked if anybody had a broken portable DVD player that they wanted to get rid of and I got replies from people with either a broken screen (free batteries) or broken disc drive (free batteries and screen).
I picked the polaroid and they included manuals and charger. SWEET!
