Help me fix a 360 controller

well long story short, COD4 on Veteran caused me to throw my controller multiple times, neither of those time did anything break, just banged the controller up.

Now after finally just getting sick of it I stop, I come back, and all my joystick wants to do is move left, I tried holding the joystick in multiple directions while turning the controller on, nothing helps, or even changes anything.

Turning the console off does nothing.

My 360 is only a month old and I have already broken a controller, it is way too banged up (Chipped in some places) to send in to microsoft for a replacement.

I thought about putting a different controller shell from another controller so I can send it in for repair, but I have no clue how to take the controller apart without voiding the warranty.

PS: Nothing rattles inside the controller, so nothing came loose.

Please help!

If worse comes to worse, I will do some soldering to fix it.

ahh, good old veteran difficulty. I think I've memorized every one of those stupid war quotes.

You say the joystick only responds when you push it left or it always is stuck on left? If it's always stuck on left then there's no way to fix that with soldering as far as I know. While working with the PS2 controller, it seemed if a wire was loose then it would effect 2 directions. Meaning there would always be 2 working or none.

If you can't seem to get any help for it, I say you go to walmart or target, buy a new controller, switch the guts out and then take back the new shell with the old guts and say it didn't work when you opened it. That always works for me.

I originally was gonna get Halo 3, but I guess that is out of the question, unless I can somehow trade the broken controller in for store credit and pay the $10 difference.

It probably hit in the joystick, causing a contact to come loose from the mobo.

So, either be a man and fix it or trick a store.

I opened it and looked at it, There was no loose connections that I could see.

So I will go with tricking a store

My friend's brother did the same thing, except he completely destroyed the joystick. Got me to fix it for free.. I desoldered the broken analog stick, and soldered another one from an old xbox controller. Worked like a charm.

Seriously. You're no different than those people who stuff something in their pocket and walk out without paying. I worked in retail for a long time, and I've dealt with a lot of sleaze-bags pulling these kinds of stunts. Not cool, not legal, and not very honest at all.

Why can't one person like me screw off a store that has screwed over thousands upon thousands of people, including thousands of it's own employees.

Unless someone is willing to fix it for me, this is the way I will be doing things, I just don't want to break it completely which is probably what would end up happening if I tried fixing it myself.

Note, that I would never think of doing this to a private locally owned business (Like a small used games store)

I agree. Its not like getting something for free and then returning it, at least the store gets a working product. Doing this is like walking in with a baseball bat and smashing one of the controllers in the store. Except its worse, because you're not even willing to admit that you were stupid and take responsibility for your actions. No matter how frustrated I've been while playing a game, I have yet to even come close to breaking anything because of it.

I will agree and say I was immature for busting the controller in the first place, but just cause you haven't done it yourself doesn't mean other people haven't done it.

I bet you have felt like throwing a controller before, for being frustrated at a game, but you resisted the urge.

This is the first time I have every thrown a controller at the TV it and I have been gaming since I was 3 (I'm 18 now)

I don't recall ever thinking I was Jesus. Why is it that a desire to follow the law is met with such insult and spite here on this forum? Feck, all I want is to stay out of jail, and now I've got a god-complex over that? What-the-feck-ever.



Anyway, what on earth is the point of getting so upset over lines of code? I love me some games, I really enjoy getting into them, but to get that upset? What do you people do in real life when things go bad?

And in any case, what has throwing the controller and breaking it solved? Nothing. Just creates more problems. Find a replacement joystick, get a friend to fix it, learn that infantile anger is not a good thing, and move on with your life.

Well how abouts you just solder ina new joystick from a crap controller like someone said or just open the analog and fix the potentiometers inside. either way if its walmart or something they wont even know the difference just do it.
