Stranded vs. Solid Wire, some other misc. questions.

I'm in the planning stages for a multi-console. I've got about five or six N64's, three or four GC's, Genesis consoles, etc. I'm not too concerned on the overall size, but I am gonna cram as many consoles in there as I can.


What I want to know is if using solid wire instead of stranded will let me do longer cart slot relocations. Is there any significant reduction of cross-talk or interference by using solid wire? Does wrapping the wires in foil or electrical tape shield them better?

Also, assuming I use component AV out on each of these consoles, how necessary is the RF shielding? They're going to all be in the same enclosure together, will each console need its shielding? Does it depend on the individual consoles?

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am semi expert on this.

Stranded Vs Solid - Not a big difference. I recommend stranded because if you try to flex the solid wire allot you run the risk of tearing the pcb trace.

The thicker the wires is important. The thicker the better the signal you can carry.

Keep the wires straight and even in length as possible. Even more so the farther you go. Try not to exceed 6-8".

Consoles don't need shielding. The reason they have it is to please the FCC.
